One of the most asked questions relate to the why & how of swaddling and the transition from a swaddle to a sleeping bag. With that in mind we thought it to be helpful to compile our expert's knowledge and experience in two articles, which you can find below.
What is a tog rating?
A tog is a measurement of warmth and is unrelated to the actual thickness or weight of the bedding. Ultimately, the higher the tog measurement, the warmer the product is. The Puckababy range has been tested by an independent laboratory in Europe, TUV Rheinland, and has come out with beautifully low tog ratings that range from 0.25 to 2.5 tog.
Our standard bags are rated 0.5 tog, which is a low and therefore safe tog rating for your baby. What this means is that the cotton that we use has excellent breathability. It also ensures that your baby will sleep safely at a pleasant and constant temperature throughout the night. By simply adjusting the layer of clothing your baby wears underneath, you can use the bag in a wide range of temperatures.
For the colder winter months, we recommend our teddy winter range, rated 2.5 TOG.
For the warmer months, we recommend our Tencel summer range which is made out of the beautiful and award-winning Tencel fabric, rated 0.25 TOG. Tencel is known for being 50%
more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen.
In all our product descriptions you will find the tog rating under the tab 'size and care', as well as a chart with clothing advice (for our swaddle and sleeping bags). This chart will help you decide what your baby is best to wear under the swaddle or sleeping bag, so you can be assured she is comfortable and won't be waking up too cold or too warm.
